Code of Conduct and Ethics
Sport Jiu-Jitsu Canadian Association National Federation (SJJCANF)
1. Purpose
The Code of Conduct and Ethics establishes the expected standards of behaviour for all SJJCANF participants.
Participation in SJJCANF programs requires individuals to uphold the values of:
Respect
Integrity
Fairness
Safety
Inclusion
Sportsmanship
2. Application
This Code applies to all SJJCANF participants including:
Athletes
Coaches
Officials
Volunteers
Staff
Board members
Club representatives
Parents and guardians
3. General Standards of Behaviour
All SJJCANF participants must:
Treat others with respect and dignity
Promote a safe and inclusive environment
Demonstrate sportsmanship and fair play
Follow the rules of the sport and competition
Avoid conflicts of interest
Act with honesty and integrity
Support the development and well-being of athletes
4. Responsibilities of Athletes
Athletes are expected to:
Train and compete with integrity
Respect coaches, officials, and fellow athletes
Follow competition rules and regulations
Demonstrate good sportsmanship
Avoid abusive or discriminatory behaviour
5. Responsibilities of Coaches and Officials
Coaches and officials must:
Prioritize athlete safety and well-being
Provide instruction that is respectful and appropriate
Avoid abuse of power or authority
Act as role models for ethical conduct
Maintain professional boundaries with athletes
6. Responsibilities of Board Members and Staff
Board members and staff must:
Act in the best interests of SJJCANF
Ensure transparent and ethical governance
Avoid conflicts of interest
Support Safe Sport initiatives
Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in sport
7. Prohibited Behaviour
Participants must not engage in:
Harassment or discrimination
Bullying or intimidation
Abuse or maltreatment
Retaliation against individuals who report concerns
Fraud, corruption, or misuse of organizational resources
8. Compliance
Failure to comply with this Code may result in disciplinary action under the SJJCANF Discipline and Complaints Policy.
