SJJIF UNIFORM REGULATIONS
The SJJIF utilizes uniform requirements to help make competition fair and safe for all athletes.
The SJJIF regulations on uniforms can be found in the SJJIF Rulebook: Rules & Regulation Article 35.1–35.13
General Uniform Rules
- 5 minutes are allowed to change uniforms if they do not meet standards. Failure results in disqualification.
- Undergarments are mandatory under shorts or pants. Torn pants must be replaced within 5 minutes or face disqualification.
- Ripped uniforms must be replaced within 5 minutes. Clearance by uniform inspector is required before returning to mat.
- Athletes must compete in the uniform worn during weigh-in. Changing after weigh-in is not permitted.
- Wrestling shoes, socks, cups, and headgear are not allowed. No equipment that alters match outcome is permitted.
- No offensive symbols, text, or slogans. Shoes/slippers must be worn off the mat area.
Standard Guidelines
- Male competitors: Rash guards under Gi are allowed.
- Female competitors: Must wear rash guards, sports bras, or Lycra tops under the Gi. No cotton, t-shirts, or tank tops.
Head Covering for Female Athletes
- Elastic fabric only, no hard materials or strings.
- Plain black, no logos or inscriptions.
- May cover neck, ears, and hair, but face must be visible.
GI Uniform Requirements
- Must be cotton or similar, good condition, not excessively thick.
- Colors allowed: Black, white, or royal blue only. No mixed colors.
- Jacket and pants must be uniform color, within Pantone specs.
- Jacket must reach pelvis; sleeves max 5cm from wrist when extended forward.
- Sleeves must allow 7cm slack; pants must allow 5cm slack when standing.
- Lapels: 4–5cm wide, <1.3cm thick.
- Belt: 4–5cm wide, correct color, with degree bar, double knot.
- Pants must be securely tied above buttocks and remain in place.
- Pants length: no more than 8cm from ankle.
- No torn uniforms allowed. Patches only in allowed areas, securely attached.
No GI Uniform Requirements
- Rash guard must be tight-fitted, round collar only (no V-necks or sleeveless).
- Juvenile/Adult/Master: Rash guard must be black/white with 10% belt rank color, or fully belt rank color.
- Shorts must have no zippers/pockets. Must be secure and at least mid-thigh.
- Can wear tight vale-tudo shorts or loose board shorts. Lycra pants can extend past knee but not to ankle.
- Shorts/pants must be tied securely at waist and not fall when pulled.
- No torn rash guards or shorts. Patches must be securely attached.
Hygiene Requirements
- Uniform must be clean, dry, and odor-free.
- Nails must be trimmed and clean.
- Long hair must be tied securely.
- No makeup, hair dye, or residue substances.
- No participation allowed with transmittable diseases or open wounds.
- Bandaged conditions may compete if cleared by medic.
