Canadian Open: The Road to Team Canada Begins
The Canadian Open is officially more than just a national championship — it is now a qualifier for Team Canada selection and counts toward international ranking within the Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF).
This marks a major step forward for Canadian athletes and for the continued growth of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Canada.
All current members of SJJCANF must register under the SJJCANF “Team” option in the SJJIF registration portal when entering the competition in Tokyo. Registering under the national team ensures that Canada earns country points for every Canadian athlete who places at the World Championships.
While official Team Canada representatives for the World Cup on 03 September will be formally selected, all Canadian athletes are now eligible to register for the World Championships running 03–06 September.
This initiative reinforces our commitment to supporting the World Championships and the growth of the SJJIF, strengthening international pathways for Canadian athletes, and continuing to build strong relationships and recognition for SJJCANF across Canada and the world.
Canada is showing up — on the mats and on the world stage.
👉 Register under Team SJJCANF and represent Canada proudly.
